Lenexa has been building its collection of art since its first acquisition in the early 1980’s. This collection of public art includes two and three dimensional pieces located throughout the city on public property. Many of the works were selected from the 3-D Art Show that the City of Lenexa sponsored in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. Several pieces were created by national and internationally renowned artists.
A state of the arts visitor’s guide is available in the lobbies of Lenexa City Hall (12500 West 87th Street Parkway~near the intersection of Monrovia and 87th Street Parkway) and the Lenexa Community Center (13420 Oak Street~near the intersection of Santa Fe Trail Drive and Pflumm Road in Old Town Lenexa).
The guide not only lists the title and artist of each art piece, but also the address and a map of the art locations as well as an individual photograph of each piece of art! This colorful and informative publication is free to the public!
